Federico Macheda is a striker for Manchester United in the English Premier League. He rose to fame in April 2009, when he came on with 30 minutes to go against Aston Villa and scored a dramatic late winner to ensure that United remained on course for the league title.
federico Macheda was born on 22nd August 1991 in Rome, Italy. He grew up in a relatively poor area of town, and spent most of his childhoodplaying football on the streets with his friends and younger brother Simone. When he was just 13 years old, he joined up with the Lazio youth academy, and was regarded as a bright prospect for the future.
When he was still just 15 years old, Macheda was being scouted by the biggest teams in Europe. Because of regulations in Italian football, Macheda was unable to sign a professional contract until he turned 18 – which allowed manchester United to step in and sign him up on a free-transfer.
Macheda joined up with United in July 2007, and signed his first professional contract on his 17h birthday. He won many admirers as he worked his way up from the youth team to the reserve team, and was soon pushing for a first-team spot.
On Monday 31st march, Macheda was told that if he did well in the reserves, he would be in with a chance of being on the bench in the first-team game against Aston Villa. He performed brilliantly, scoring three goals in a 3-3 draw against Newcastle, and winning himself a chance in the first-team, whcih hetook with both hands.
