Italian striker Federico Macheda was already a known name when he signed for Sampdoria on loan in his native Italy. He was at Manchester United when he left to join Sampdoria.Macheda became a wonderkidat Manchester United when he came off the bench as an unknown quantity to rescue the team from the jaws of defeat during a Premier League home game against Aston Villa in April 2009.

Federico Macheda came off the bench to score the winning goal late in the game as Manchester United came from behind to beat Aston Villa 3-2 at home. His goal proved to be the catalyst needed by Manchester United as they won the Premier League title at the end of the season ahead of arch rivals and nearest challenger Liverpool. It was the third successive Premier League title for the Sir Alex Ferguson-led Manchester United team.

He spent the majority of his debut season at Manchester United with the club’s academy before he made his first team bow to good effect towards the end of that season. He wrote his name in lights when he came off the bench to rescue Manchester United against Aston Villa at home in the Premier League. Federico Macheda scored the winning goal in a 3-2 win and that victory was crucial to Manchester United winning the league title that season ahead of arch rivals Liverpool.
With United chasing the Premier League title Macheda had been informed by Sir Alex Ferguson that he would be in the first team squad for the clash against Aston Villa. This was on the back of the forward bagging a hattrick for the reserve team against Newcastle.
United made it 2-2 with an equalizer from Cristiano Ronaldo and with a few minutes left in the game a legend was born. The 17-year-old took the ball and expertly curled it out of the hands of a diving Brad Friedel and United went on to win the title.
Federico Macheda said that Jose Mourinho was right at the beginning of the season when he said that Manchester United will be facing a difficult season after he did not get the players that he wanted. The former Manchester United forward believes that the club should have given him more time to turn things around before replacing him.
