MOURINHO’S TEAM DEFEAT CITY 2-0

RomeluLukaku is starting his Red Devils journey on a good note after he scored for Manchester United in the 2-0 rout of Manchester City.

Both sides met at the NRG Stadium in Houston for the Manchester preseason derby. The stadium seems to be a good fortune spot for United as the club had defeated the MLS All Stars team in 2010, with then highly rated youngster Federico Macheda picking up the Man of the Match award.

The International Champions Cup fixture revealed that Pep Guardiola still has work to do with his goalkeepers. After the Spaniard decided to send former keeper Joe Hart packing for his numerous errors, Claudio Bravo was the replacement. Barely after a year, EdersonMoraes is the new first choice shot keeper. The Brazil U-23 star made an error that City fans would not want to see again after spending a record £35 million.

Ederson charged out without proper calculations so it was easy for Lukaku to beat him and score even from an acute angle. Minutes later Marcus Rashford scored the second of the game. The England international could have added another before the keeper managed to send it over the bar.

On the other hand, Guardiola might hand Phil Foden a few games when the season begins after the youngster showed flashes of brilliance. The 17-year old got a chance to show his stuff and it was quite good seeing him play. Brahim Diaz and TosinAdarabioyo also got opportunities but Guardiola would likely limit the game time of the youngsters. Generally, the game showed Guardiola still had a lot of work to do with the team.

For United, HenrikhMkhitaryan might get the nod for No. 10 after impressing in the role. The Armenian playmaker has been brilliant in the role so far. He could get to feature behind Lukaku permanently and really impress at Old Trafford.
